The orphanage

Here's a few photos of the outside of TongJie's orphanage.  Like I said in yesterday's post, we weren't able to take pictures inside the orphanage.  Here are some pictures of the outside of the orphanage, a picture of the orphanage gate where TongJie was found abandoned, and a picture looking across the street from the orphanage gate.  In the picture looking across the street from the gate, you see me standing with TongJie and then the orphanage director in the pink shirt, and next to her is our guide, Sarah.  Sarah has done an amazing job as a guide.  We liked Cindy in Beijing, but she was only there for the sightseeing part and we didn't interact with her a whole lot.  Sarah is actually here with us all the time and she helps us and the other family with EVERYTHING.  She's staying in the room right next to us and she helps us with all of our paperwork, with ordering food at restaurants, with buying things, with trying to help us think of ideas for TongJie's crying, etc., and she's been really encouraging about how the adjustment is going.  I need to remember to get a picture of her with Ron the pear!

Right now TongJie is sort of napping, but he'll only stay asleep and not cry if somebody holds him so Jeff is holding him.  That means I have the computer to myself, ha ha!

  1. I really like these pictures of the orphanage! It is hard to imagine what it would look like, so it was nice to see the pictures, even though they're only of the outside. It looks like a nice place! And I also enjoyed seeing what Sarah looks like. It sounds like she has been wonderful!

It's so sad to imagine TongJie being left all alone by that gate when he was an newborn. It sounds like the orphanage is a really good one, so his birth mother probably knew he would be well cared for there. But it still brings tears to my eyes to think about it... :(
